New Jersey Continuing Education Requirements
NJSHA is an approved Professional Development Provider by the New Jersey State Department of Education, ID Provider #320.

Continuing Professional Education:
Your license to practice Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology in the State of New Jersey must be renewed every two years. Please be aware that you will be required to document twenty (20) hours of Continuing Professional Education if licensed within the first year of the licensing period; ten (10) hours if licensed after the first day of November of the second year of the licensing period; zero (0) hours if licensed within six months of the expiration date. Please refer to N.J.A.C. 13:44C-6.1 -13:44C-6.5 for specifics on continuing education. Once your regular license is issued, it is recommended that you begin acquiring the twenty (20) hours so that you will be able to qualify for renewal when your present license expires.

  • The New Jersey Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Committee will not verify your professional status with the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). You must contact ASHA and request your certification or credentials and forward them to the Committee.
  • Do not confuse the New Jersey Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Committee with ASHA. The fact that ASHA is in receipt of your records does not satisfy your obligation to the State of New Jersey.

If you wish to have NJSHA submit for ASHA CEUs you will need to register and pay NJSHA a small additional fee. This fee covers the administrative cost for NJSHA to process and verify all paperwork required by ASHA. This fee is not covered by ASHA.

Attendees interested in obtaining ASHA CEUs are required to be registered with ASHA's CE Registry.
The annual CE Registry fees allow registration of an unlimited number of ASHA CEUs for the calendar year.

What is the ASHA CE Registry?
The ASHA CE Registry is a computerized database that records ASHA Continuing Education Units (ASHA CEUs) awarded by the ASHA Continuing Education Board (CEB). The database maintains a permanent, cumulative transcript of your ASHA CEUs.

Why should I use the ASHA CE Registry?
The CEB awards ASHA CEUs solely through the CE Registry. Using the ASHA CE Registry is the only way to document ASHA CEUs. It is a convenient, safe and efficient way to keep track of your participation in professional development.

State license: All states accept the ASHA CE transcript as valid documentation. (*Contact state board about specific guidelines on course content and format.)

Keeping your CCC current: ASHA CEUs are accepted for CCC maintenance requirements. If you should be audited, you will not need to submit proof of attendance for your 30-hour requirement. Please contact the Certification department at cccmaintenance@asha.org if you have questions.

Can I keep track of my CEUs on my own?
You can keep your own record of CE attendance. ASHA CE will not be able to verify your attendance in CE activities if you do not use the CE Registry. We advise you to check with your state licensing board to see what documentation they require for re-licensing or audit before making this decision.

Individuals may not submit CE records directly to ASHA. All CE records must be submitted to ASHA by an approved ASHA provider.

You do not need to use the ASHA CE Registry for CCC renewal, though you may find it a convenient, no-hassle approach. Please visit the CCC Maintenance pages or e-mail certification@asha.org for more information.

Who can use the Registry?
You do not need to be an ASHA member to use the ASHA CE Registry. If you meet the course's prerequisites, you may earn ASHA CEUs and use the ASHA CE Registry. ASHA Approved CE Providers set their course requirements and determine who is eligible to earn ASHA CEUs.

How does ASHA know I attended a course?
When you attend a course offering ASHA CEUs, fill out and hand in the "ASHA CEU Participation Form" before you leave. The ASHA Approved CE Provider sends your information to us within 45 days of the activity's end date.
The Continuing Education Board awards you ASHA CEUs through the CE Registry. The Registry staff sends your transcript at your request.

How soon will a course be on my transcript?
ASHA CE Providers have up to 45 days from the activity's end date to send your CEU Participant Form to us. Once here, processing time can take up to four (4) weeks. During periods of heavy volume, processing time may be longer.
